American Viticultural Area

An American Viticultural Area (AVA) is a designated wine grape-growing region in the United States, providing an official Appellation for the mutual benefit of wineries and consumers. Winemakers often want their consumers to know about the geographic pedigree of their wines, as wines from particular areas possess distinctive characteristics. Consumers often seek out wines from specific AVAs, and certain wines of particular pedigrees can claim premium prices and loyal customers.

In the Napa Valley there are 16 unique Viticultural Areas. With their own climate and microclimates, soil structures, and other distinctions each area offers their own special flavors and quality.

Indulge in our exquisite collection of sustainable wines sourced from the top American Viticultural Areas (A.V.A.'s) of the Napa Valley. Each bottle tells a unique story of craftsmanship and terroir, delivering an unparalleled wine experience.

Napa Valley's 16 sub-appellations

Napa Valley, known for its exceptional wines, consists of 16 sub appellations that showcase the diverse terroir and microclimates of the region. These sub appellations include Atlas Peak, Calistoga, Chiles Valley, Coombsville, Diamond Mountain District, Howell Mountain, Los Carneros, Mount Veeder, Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, Spring Mountain District, Stags Leap District, Wild Horse Valley, and Yountville.

Each sub appellation has its unique characteristics, contributing to the rich tapestry of flavors found in Napa Valley wines. For instance, the volcanic soil of Atlas Peak produces intense, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon, while the cooler climate of Los Carneros is renowned for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Whether you are a wine connoisseur or an enthusiast, exploring the 16 sub appellations of Napa Valley promises a memorable and diverse tasting experience.

Our Winemaking Philosophy

At A.V.A. Vintners, we believe in the art of winemaking based on location. Our team of skilled winemakers first seek out the best grapes from a particular AVA, then they combine traditional techniques with modern innovation to create exceptional wines that showcase the unique characteristics of that American Viticultural Area.

From each individual AVA and unique vineyard site, to the skilled hands of our wine team and into the bottle, we are committed to sustainability and producing wines of the highest quality.
